St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception

St. Mary

At the turn of the last century, the growing population of Catholics in South Cumberland brought about the need for a new parish. St. Mary’s was built between 1900 and 1901, but by the mid-1920’s, an even larger facility was necessary. Construction began on the present St. Mary’s Church in the Spring of 1928, and the first mass held in the new church was celebrated on Christmas Day of the same year.
Among the many activities and programs of this large parish, the Children’s Clothing Room (a community outreach), Saint Anthony Place Food Pantry and the Parish Office, all operate from this location. The Capuchin Franciscan Friars serving Our Lady of the Mountains Parish maintain their residence at St. Mary’s.
